A golfing haven so close to Manchester’s City Centre.......
Founded in 1907, Blackley Golf Club is a beautiful parkland course situated between junctions 20 and 21 of the M60 Motorway and just 10 minutes from the centre of Manchester.
The Course has many water features and the USGA greens are acknowledged to be the best in the area.
The building of Manchester’s M60 orbital motorway in the early nineties forced a reconstruction of part of the course. Under the guidance of architect, Tom MacCauley the redesigned course was opened on the 29th May 1999 by the President and Captain’s of the day.
Over later years, under the watchful eye of Jonathan Gaunt & Steve Marnoch, a second stage of landscaping and a modern irrigation system was introduced which incorporated many of the water features that the course now boasts.
The result is a testing course that the members are rightly proud of and one that provides a fantastic game of golf for all who visit.
The Course
Measuring 6168 yards with a par of 71 Blackley Golf Club is adorned with some wonderfully challenging holes with its tight tree lined fairways and numerous water hazards placing a premium on accuracy and course management.
The test of your accuracy and course management begins right at the very first hole. No gentle introduction to your round at Blackley Golf Club! The 379 yard par 4 not only incorporates three water hazards but also has ‘out of bounds’ all down the right hand side of hole, and an undulating green.
A truly daunting start!
The next five holes are played over the newer part of the course and are full of undulations and some occasional tricky blind shots before you return towards the clubhouse to play “Little Gem” the aptly named par 3 seventh hole.
