Despite it’s name, Blue Mountain is a gently undulating course – although as a venue it is good enough to hit more than a few peaks.
This may be one of Berkshire’s newest golf clubs but it upholds all the cherished, long-held traditions of the game. Everything looks and feels contemporary when you step out of your car but this club prides itself on providing the high standards of quality in everything it does – both on and off the course – that are taken for granted at many century-old golfing establishments.
Resting in 200 acres of beautiful Berkshire countryside, with easy access to both the M4 and the M3, Blue Mountain strictly adheres to widely recognised codes of dress and etiquette and provides an experience that is unashamedly biased towards keen players.
For example, there are eight-minute gaps between tee times to ensure a smooth passage of play throughout the round. And the greens are undulating to the point of wicked at times with surfaces as smooth and true as you’ll find anywhere. The layout does not feel at all immature either, despite its relatively tender years (it was constructed in 1993).
However, don’t read this all as a bias towards low handicappers. Blue Mountain is one of those courses that has a flexible design, with different teeing areas to suit players of varying ability. It also has the usual benefits of being owned by Crown Golf with one of the brilliant Crown Golf Academies on site with numerous coaching programmes for golfers of every ability level.
The Clubhouse
This is a modern affair but the building is large, comfortable and very spacious. There is an expansive bar and dining area and the changing rooms are in excellent condition. Blue Mountain is an ideal venue for conferencing and banqueting too. The complex comes with seven fully air conditioned conference and banqueting suites for up to 650 delegates. Each room offers stunning views of the golf course surrounded by beautiful lakes and landscaped gardens. It’s a perfect location for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, corporate dinners and seasonal balls.
