There are few finer settings for a round of golf than Hampshire’s New Forest and Bramshaw Golf Club has been taking full advantage of its idyllic location for over 130 years.
The unique 36-hole complex in the hamlet of Brook offers the member and visiting golfer a diverse chalk and cheese selection of courses to play – the diversity of which is unsurpassed in the UK.
The Courses:
The Manor Course
Although only conceived in 1970, the 6537 yard course has all the hallmarks of a club celebrating its centenary. The course begins as any good course should, adjacent to the Clubhouse, with a relatively straight par four of some 366 yards. The members advise a good knock over the lone oak that stands on the left hand side of the fairway to guarantee a view to the green ahead.
The course is immediately quite beautiful. High oaks and birches line the lovingly striped fairways that meander around this ancient estate creating avenues of golfing perfection. It’s incredible to believe that this course hasn’t even reached it’s forties yet.
A brace of doglegs take you out to the far reaches of the estate where you can further appreciate the surroundings; the serenity of Bramshaw Golf Club will allow you to forget the outside world and concentrate on your game whilst soaking in the golfing arena you find yourself in.
Revisiting the clubhouse after 11 holes gives you a chance to grab a snack before the final third commences again with a driveable par four. The last 7 holes swing back out from the main building via the 12th and takes you to the continuing theme of long par threes. The 7th is 225 from the back tees, the 9th demands just under 200 yards from you off the tee and at a shade over 20 yards, the 13th offers no let up either! Target golf Bramshaw isn’t but the fairways can be narrow in places so a yardage booklet the first time you play will definitely help you choose how you plot your way around this fine track.
The longest hole on the Manor greets you at the 15th where all that is expected of you is a mere 548 yards before you pluck out the putter.
