So called thanks to its unique juxtaposition to the Greenwich Mean Timeline running down the 14th fairway, Cambridge Meridian Golf Club is a timeless classic.
A mere baby at just 14 years old, the club appears as though it is well into its forties. Found just outside the town of Toft and due west of Cambridge, the club was designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark and has hosted a number of notable events in its short lifetime.
Clark and Alliss have designed a golfing masterpiece that makes full use of the terrain around which the course winds. Reminiscent of a links course in places it combines classic golf with a modern twist.
Owned by a former county player and Business Woman of the Year, Jenny Wisson and British Open Champion, Vivien Saunders who was awarded an OBE for services to golf, the club is in excellent hands.
The clubhouse
Regarded as the friendliest club in Cambridgeshire, The Meridian clubhouse opens its arms to all who visit. The bar area is the perfect place to wind down after a round or rejuvenate after treading the links. The terrace overlooks the 18th green and faces due south enjoying the sunshine all day long whilst you enjoy a well earned beer. The attractive, bright function room is the ideal place for weddings, dinners and conferences and the cuisine comes highly recommended.
A visit to Cambridge Meridian wouldn’t be right without a visit to Craig Watson’s professional shop behind the first tee. All manner of golfing accoutrements are available to help relieve you of that hard-earned cash all washed down, naturally with some good old fashioned friendly golfing banter.
The course
The first thing you notice at Cambridge Meridian is the obvious care and attention to detail the greens staff have for their course. Accurately striped fairways and greens manicured to perfection are evident from the off. A short drive down "Sheepshank" – the curiously titled first hole – will leave you a wedge to the first of many picturesque greens over ditches and streams at The Meridian.
