Favourite hole
Glen Gorse Golf Club is littered with attractive holes but few are held in higher esteem than the 15th. The 157 yard par 3 is one of the prettiest holes you’ll come across anywhere in the UK and tempts you to chuck half a dozen balls down so your approach eventually matches the beauty of the hole.
The kidney-shaped green is surrounded with high fir trees that create a wonderful amphitheatre setting and with a massive banana shaped bunker guarding the fore a well struck mid iron it will have to be if you’re going to find the dance floor in one go! A picture perfect Monkey Puzzle tree lies on the right hand side of the fairway capping off the most striking par 3 you’re likely to see.
Verdict
I loved playing at Glen Gorse Golf Club and I’d be personally offended if anyone didn’t enjoy their experience there as much as I did. The clubhouse has everything you need and more housing some of the friendliest and welcoming members I have come across. The course gets better and better as you get round and treats you with accommodating greens and picture perfect golfing vistas at every angle. The drainage is superb even though it’s a relatively low-lying track and Francis Kempster and his team work tirelessly to maintain one of the nicest golf courses in the country.
