The 9th is an unforgiving Par 5 that doglegs left and demands a draw with the second shot while the 10th, from its tee high above the green offers a spectacular view down the fairway to a pond that eats into the front right of the green calling for a difficult second shot with only the most modest bale out area to the left.
Favourite hole
The short 8th is the most talked about hole and is often compared to the famous 12th at Augusta. In May and June rhododendrons help fuel the illusion and the shot across an ornamental lake demanding the same careful club selection and precise strike simply adds a little more to the romance.
The Clubhouse
The old Victorian manor house serves as both the clubhouse and a four-star hotel with separate bars and changing facilities for golfers. The club has a professional’s shop and can still arrange caddies for those prepared to give prior notice.
Verdict
The addition of a second 18-hole course, The Glens Course, in 1991 added another dimension to this fine Angus club, which is an ideal base to explore the glories of what is known as "Carnoustie Country".
