Enjoying its association within the undulating grounds of the eponymous stately home, St Thomas's Priory Golf Club ensures an excellent test for everyone.
Designed only a dozen or so years ago, the course takes a wonderful journey through the ancient Staffordshire woodland encompassing the delightful countryside and traditions.
THE CLUBHOUSE
A Provencal tree-lined driveway leads you away from the main road and up the hill to the majestic clubhouse at the foot of the course. An aesthetically pleasing design, the clubhouse provides everything the member and visitor requires including panoramic views from the bar of the lower end of the course and the adjacent practice facilities.
A warm greeting from the receptionist will welcome you to the club and a right turn into Professional Club Shop should stock you up with all you need to take on the links. A short walk around the clubhouse takes you to the first tee.
THE COURSE
St Thomas's is a parkland course whose predominant feature is its undulating terrain and this is evident from the off; the first hole sweeps its way up to the green ahead and offers the golfer the first challenge of the day. At 367yards and uphill all the way the opening hole should warm you up on those cold winter mornings.
The 2nd is arguably the most attractive hole at the club. It descends back down the hill your little legs have just struggled to climb and at 187yards from the back tees requires a good swing to park it next to the pin. The image of the green below sets off the foreground of a beautiful painting whilst the Staffordshire countryside behind finishes it off to perfection.
St Thomas's is a good-looking course even though its youth would suggest is shouldn?t. At only twelve years of age the park is well designed and whilst the views are phenomenal the course is well kept and interesting throughout.
The remainder of the front nine takes on the western reaches of the hillside upon which it rests and a wander past the clubhouse again takes you to the equally interesting back nine and an intimate view of the building the club takes its name from.
